Jerusalem 1913: The Origins of the Arab-Israeli Conflict - Amy Dockser Marcus
Shared by:micksuits
A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist examines the genesis of one of the greatest political struggles of our time
Searching for the origins of the Arab-Israeli conflict, historians for years focused on the British Mandate period (1920–1948). Amy Dockser Marcus, however, demonstrates that the bloody struggle for power actually started much earlier, when Jerusalem was still part of the Ottoman Empire and the rise of Zionism and Arab nationalism laid the groundwork for the battles that would continue to rage nearly a century later.
Nineteen thirteen was the crucial year for these conflicts—the year that the Palestinians held the First Arab Congress and the first time that secret peace talks were held between Zionists and Palestinians. World War I, however, interrupted these peace efforts.
Dockser Marcus traces these dramatic times through the lives of a handful of the city’s leading citizens as they struggle to survive. A current events must read in our ongoing efforts to understand the Arab-Israeli conflict.

this book name should be changed to, How to steal something not yours by force
August 19th, 2021
@Within - you are so right, it was the continuous home of the Jews before the Arabs tried to usurp it by force.
August 19th, 2021
@ssafe05 usurp it by who the Romans or The Cannaits. so you think Egypt,Syria,Iraq,North African native people were all gone when the early Muslim armies who conquered it and filled it with millions and millions of arabs from the Arabic peninsula? all native people of these areas were Semitic people just like the Arabs themselves and they adopted Arabic as religious and first language. Turks and Iranian don’t speak arabic although all of them were conquered by the same force. what happened to Palestine and its innocent people was brazenly theft and crime Against all humanity.

No offense Within, the book shouldn’t have a name at all. Don’t know witch side u are going after or backing, either way theft is a poor choice for an analogy for a vague opinion & I really tried, but theft implies acquisition of (choose physical to intangible) the “widget” in posession of another. To deprive, deny and damage or enrich, empower & erode the thief.
While this has absolutely nothing to display appreciation for the generosity of the OP, who is allowing your rather simplistic display of hypocrisy, you really can’t dangle a pigeon like that without expecting at least an easy swing at it.
Regardless of the above nonsense, I appreciate the up regardless of my opinions and appreciate any opportunity to get “wordy” Intentionally…
Thanks for the vent and the up.
Cheers

@wedis yeah let see your response when some colonists on british ships came to your occupied country fully armed and ready to do ethnic cleansing to your people who forcefully were disarmed by the occupiers because some realestate God decided to sell some chosen people a piece of land and name it by a prophet name. first time in history a geography is named by a guy.yeah let see what is your response if you were killed by them or became one of the 5 million palestinian refugees who are not allowed to come back to their stolen country.
It is a thefit pure and simple.
I’m clear with my opinion.
what had happened was tragic crime against Humanity

Wow, you are really that delusional, I assumed it was typical lazy ignorant rhetoric. To many options for condescension and correction & since even if possible, I sincerely doubt open discourse is a concept capable of the limited comprehension you have displayed thus far, ie; thefit pure & simple. As to my response, nothing is pure nor simple in the aspect you wanted to attempt. As to the utter lack of coherence, I will reiterate the FACT not opinion nor hearsay actual empirical data, you have absolutely no relevant knowledge of the actual topic let alone historical accuracy. Since you are no longer an amusement & can not afford the price I paid for my lessons, my charity will end with something you can play with siri or google or whatever gives you answers to questions you don’t even know to ask.
Since I doubt you have a single actual fact, here you go: first common language known in the region known as hellenic was phoenician, which predates aramaic let alone anything byzantium or ottoman by a few millennia. As to the babbling “land and name it after prophet name” for the first time, whatever that was supposed to convey failed miserably. The phrase for “the first time” for you, not so much for the average adult, be it a king prophet or deity, try nothing new under the sun, you can learn that list without even leaving your couch. Last child, speaking in generalities is a very easy indication of so many personal details you may not want to show without anonymity & the internet, but 1 freebie, you have no real experience, you have never been to a place completely unknown or alone, chances are you have never touched any of the ground you poorly speak of and the last since you obviously did not understand the words I chose to use in my previous attempt this is the point I am trying to get through KEEP OFF TOPIC OPINION OUT OF COMMENTS. This is the place to post gratitude for the generosity of the poster, this is the place to ask questions or additional help, lastly if there is a problem with the function of the upload. So ends the lesson even my hypocrisy has limits.
My apologies for the overt reply, I will try not to swing at the low hanging fruit, just reflex condescension which apparently needs a lower syllable count…
OP thanks for the indulgence I will now have to back what I say so no more op eds.lol

@wedis Don’t go left and right. have some balance please. you wrote so many extra words for no reason.
The land belong to the palestinian people. it was stolen from them by well of Force. they were ethnically cleansed from their country so some jewish fanatics and settlers can have a country over theirs. it is simple as that, it happened with colonial direct british help. or should I make you read The balfour declaration? this is a fact on the ground. why you think there are millions of palestinian refugees Now,so you think they came from mars? and BTW Aramaic was the language of the phoenicians lol.

That was the entire point, this is not the place for word games and opinions, apparently I was to subtle…
If you need a link to the proper section of the forum that can be posted here. No more op-ed & I stick to my words.
