I suspect the 1936 film with Laurence Olivier did long-term damage to this play. As You Like It isn’t silly, it’s dripping with sarcasm.
I’ve heard the LATW production before: it treats the play with respect, not like some period Bridget Jones.
Once you get the candy coating off, AYLI is as uncomfortable as any of the other comedies.
