My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have loaned it to many friends who have shared our high praises. At first consideration, the book might not seem to appeal to an American audience that is unfamiliar with English Law. This is not the case.

Defending the Guilty is such an enjoyable and funny read that it’s hard to put down. Alex McBride’s willingness to poke fun at himself and talk about the rather unglamorous life of a lawyer just starting is refreshingly honest. The writing is intelligent and perfectly pitched. Alex provides the occasional historical background to laws to provide context and understanding and yet manages to keep the lessons snappy to keep the reader interested.
