Hulton College in Norfolk is a school dedicated to producing military officers. With the First World War about to start, the boys of the school will soon be on the front line. But no one expects a war – not even Dr John Smith, the college’s new house master…
The Doctor’s friend Benny is enjoying her holiday in the same town. But then she meets a future version of the Doctor, and things start to get dangerous very quickly. With the Doctor she knows gone, and only a suffragette and an elderly rake for company, can Benny fight off a vicious alien attack? And will Dr Smith be able to save the day?
An adventure set in Britain on the eve of the First World War, featuring the Seventh Doctor as played by Sylvester McCoy and his companion Bernice Summerfield. This book was the basis for the Tenth Doctor television story Human Nature / The Family of Blood starring David Tennant.

1 Gb — 263 kbps.
Seems a bit extreme for a book reading.

No no, much preferable to a underwater-sounding 64kbps book from Audible. You can always reencode them at a lower bitrate at your end.
Thanks for this!

Ooooh, I just read this one like a couple of weeks ago, thanks!

I could not agree more with Ether above. I would MUCH rather download a full-spectrum file which I can then downsize to my own specifications.
When I listen on my iPod, I prefer files to be 44.1K sampling at a 128K bit rate. I cannot stand to listen to files that have been over-optimized with poor sound quality. Calling it “underwater-sounding” could even be seen as generous in some cases I’ve found. Some contributions here come originally from cassette tapes, sampled from a broadcast or streaming source, or even vinyl LPs. I can be forgiving in those cases, but in every case I would so much rather have too much data than too little. There have been many occasions where I have downloaded an audiobook from this site, sampled a few seconds here and there, and deleted it immediately because the sound quality was so poor.

How embarrassing. I forgot to say thank you to the uploader! I have been wanting to listen to this story for a long time. I’m a huge fan of Paul Cornell.

Thank you very much!

Thank you for this, and the quality.
I have to agree with DarkerEyes. I’d much rather the quality that I could downgrade, rather than trying to make something sound better and being unable to because of the source.
I guess it could be a problem if you have limited bandwidth/ data caps etc.
I read this a couple of years ago. Lisa Bowerman,as always, should do a sterling job with the reading.
Thank you again.

This might be a long shot, but could someone please seed this? I’ve been stuck at 99.7% for about a month now, and I can’t find this audiobook anywhere else.
From what I’ve been able to download, this is an excellent book with excellent sound quality. Lisa Bowerman’s impression of Sylvester McCoy is hilarious, 100/10.
