She lucidly shows the forces that drove white southerners to construct beacons of white supremacy, as well as the ways that antimonument sentiment, largely stifled during the Jim Crow era, returned with the civil rights movement and gathered momentum in the decades after the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Monument defenders responded with gerrymandering and heritage laws intended to block efforts to remove these statues, but hard as they worked to preserve the Lost Cause vision of southern history, civil rights activists, Black elected officials, and movements of ordinary people fought harder to take the story back. Just like following a homeless guy who failed as an artist and never got beyond high school. Who even tried to overthrow a government and got many of his followers killed. Who Is one of the worst writers? A guy that never had a real relationship with a woman. Who finally put a bullet in his head instead of facing justice. Can you guess who I am talking about? @Gordon: which parts of Africa have you been to? Because I’ve been to several countries there (yes, it’s not just one country, white man) and the influence of white christians is quite heavy all over the continent (yes, it’s not just one country, white man).
Also, does anyone else find it interesting that it’s ONLY WHITE MEN who want to put up statues of ONLY WHITE MEN?? Nobody else cares, nobody is putting up statues of themselves, nobody cares if you’re not constantly praising them, but white men do.
What is it about white christian men that they put up statues of themselves, demand everyone thank them and then get angry and violent when you don’t want to play their childish game? What is it about this one group of society that wants special rules above everyone else and can’t seem to get along with any of these others? Why are they like this?

koloko-I have never been to Ukraine yet I am pretty sure there is a war going on there. Why does one need to go somewhere to know what has happened in the past?
And I am pretty sure that white people that are NOT Christian are to blame as well. As well as men and women of other colors who are just crappy people. I think we were told that fast food workers were HEROs during the PLANDEMIC. That is not the meaning of the word HERO.

GordonCoon-I am sure that if she were to go to Africa, she would definitely stay. It is a much better country than the US (according to most blacks) without racism or the looting/stealing we have in the US. In fact, slavery is non-existent and has never existed there. All governments are stable and peaceful. :D
Now…to get back to the real world…If you get rid of every picture of a slave owner, you better no carry cash or money with you.

@ Koloko. I’ve lived in Africa. In Egypt and in Nigeria. I must have missed the white Christians in both. Though Nigeria does have a sizeable number of Christians, it’s also pretty keen on Islam. Last time I checked, Islam was definitely not our fault. And in Egypt? Islam is, by far, the majority faith. What I didn’t miss, however, is that both countries are abject dumps in comparison to developing nations on other continents. Nigeria in particular is like watching what happens when the atom bomb mates with the plague.
As for statues of white men? Imagine white people putting up statues of themselves in their own countries? Why does that upset you? I’ll give you a clue - it’s because you’re the racist.
