In 1776, the American Founding Fathers put forth a founding document to declare their emergence as a world power, and to articulate the direction they wanted their new country to follow. Anyone seeking to understand the cultural DNA of The United States would do well to listen to, and understand that document.
As China increasingly emerges as a major power on the world stage, it’s equally important to seek out their founding documents. It would be helpful in these demented times, to add to this “seminal” work, other psychopath’s oeuvres like Kim Jong-Il’s “On the Juche Idea” and Gaddafi’s Green Book just to name a few. Read/listen, something good might come about in another 20 or so years when all reigning promoters of this crap turn conservatives.

Women, friends, and flowers that haven’t been forcibly starved or beaten to death, that is, illo.
And allowing a friend to resort to suicide - even encouraging it - isn’t any act of friendship.
Also, it’s difficult to let a 100 schools of thought properly do their thing, when “To read too many books is harmful” & illiteracy is praiseworthy.
You have to look at words & deeds in conjunction. The brutal repression of the “Cultural Revolution” involved the direct opposite of letting a 100 schools of thought contend.

I offered those quotes without commentary. Mao was quite possibly even more a monster than his contemporaries in Russia and Germany.
But - the quotes were there like the ones Caesar picked. Who’s to say they were the ones he didn’t mean?
Personally, I think the people who enables the dictator’s deeds are as bad as the head figure. Possibly even more so.

Heard about this book being passed around from student to student when I was in school. Eventually got offerred a copy but passed it up in favor of, “Fanny Hill” aka “Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure”. Call me shallow but I’m sure I made the right choice.

Please do not leave reviews of the audiobook based on the contents of the book rather then the quality of the presentation.
Not a big fan of Mao, but the little red book is an important historical resource to understand Maoist ideology.
