Shareware Heroes takes readers on a journey through a critical yet long overlooked chapter in video game history: the rise and eventual fall of the shareware model.
As commercial game distribution professionalised in the 1980s, independent creators with scant resources or contacts were squeezed out of the market. But not entirely. New technologies and distribution concepts were creating a hidden games publishing market – one that operated by different rules and that, at least for the first several years, had no powerful giants.

Ahh the good old days! At that time the internet was what it was meant to be. I still have many great shareware games that I still love. Now it is gone and that is a huge loss for everyone. This is a great book thank you so much for the upload.

I ran a dial up BBS from 89-95 I had 4 lines on a hunt system. we started using wildcat but then switched over to renegade then we switched to RA which was based of renegade. We used Ice chat and Bluewave mail. we had newsgroups and Fido net. Door games Like tradewars and legend of the Red Dragon. I had a whole separate tower of cd roms serving up the latest in sharware. we would subscribe to the cd rom shareware group every month we got 3 or 4 new cds full of shaware that we would put on the bbs. we even had a small warez section that had 2 games. lol Heroes Quest and Police Quest.
