The value of this book probably rests of whether the author means Christianity or “Christianity”.
As long as what it means to be “Christian” is defined by people who assume God who shares their fetishes and prejudices and therefore make him out to be some old pervert who peeks in people’s bedrooms and under their clothes to decide their value as human beings, Christianity will never make sense.
Christ makes a lot of sense. And I’m not even opposed to the notion of a Creator, because I am one of those people who does crave spirituality. However, it is the very height of presumptuous arrogance to assume we know God’s will or to imbue God with our own prejudices and preferences.
It’s a shame what passes for Christianity in most so-called “Christian” denominations has nothing to do with Christ’s actual teachings.
Follow the Christ who healed the Roman Centurion’s male lover (yes, the Greek word that was eventually interpreted to mean “beloved servant” actually has a specific definition and refers to a same-gender partner) and praised that Centurion for his faith.
Don’t follow the cheap knock-off they’re trying to sell you in mega-churches these days.
