Summary
Dan Starkey recounts a brand-new adventure in Victorian England for the Eighth Doctor, as played on TV by Paul McGann.
In 1890s Cardiff, reporter James MacFarlane is intrigued by rumours of ‘anaesthesia frolics’, at which gatherings the latest frontier in pain relief is demonstrated to influential guests.
After he speaks to someone who attended several such ‘frolics’—and left with a hand and two fingers missing—James realises that the events have a dark side. Contriving an invitation, he is astounded to find another guest also investigating—it’s his old friend the Doctor!
Reunited in mystery, the Doctor and James enter the murky underbelly of polite Cardiff society, where they uncover a shattering secret—and a monster lurking at its heart.
Dan Starkey, who played Strax in the BBC TV series, reads Andrew Lane’s dark and brooding tale.

Thought Paul McGann could have been a great long term Doctor - far better than what came after (with notable exceptions of Tennant and Smith)

@Basileus5 - Nah, Paul McGann is far too white and too straight for the BBC. Even tho he is a far better Actor than anything they have now, and was a Great Doctor on TV and fantastic in audio, when the piss poor writing allows it. Thanks for this post @nncroft.

its like these incels have never watched Doctor Who or understood who has produced directed and starred in it for 60 years……
hist the first producer was a woman the first director was a gay man
and the majority of the show has been produced by liberal men women or gay men
and it pretty much is down to a gay show that the revival was even green lit in 2005
