Cro-Magnons were the first fully modern Europeans?not only the creators of the stunning cave paintings at Lascaux and elsewhere, but the most adaptable and technologically inventive people that had yet lived on earth. The prolonged encounter between the Cro-Magnons and the archaic Neanderthals and between 45,000 and 30,000 years ago was one of the defining moments of history. The Neanderthals survived for some 15,000 years in the face of the newcomers, but were finally pushed aside by the Cro-Magnons’ vastly superior intellectual abilities and cutting-edge technologies, which allowed them to thrive in the intensely challenging climate of the Ice Age.
What do we know about this remarkable takeover? Who were the first modern Europeans and what were they like? How did they manage to thrive in such an extreme environment? And what legacy did they leave behind them after the cold millennia? The age of the Cro-Magnons lasted some 30,000 years?longer than all of recorded history. Cro-Magnon is the story of a little known, yet seminal, chapter of human experience.

Brilliant.

New evidence regarding Neanderthals has shown that rather than an inferior species, they were in fact possibly further along than Cro-Magnons in regard to technology. (production of non oxidised resins) Further, evidence found in a few caves (last 5 years) shows that Cro-magnons and Neanderthals lived communally. Neither were wiped out, they simply interbred to produce modern humans. Obviously, this goes against 18th century doctrine. But, advances in technology is supporting the new finds and the number of such finds are increasing. It’s a nicer ending than the genocide we were taught in school.
Thanks rmoor

Sorry, as an addendum, Scientific testing has shown that Neanderthals were physically superior to Cro-Magnons and more able to withstand the colder climates. Their technology thought without evidence to be inferior, has been found to be superior and they were using technologies that were far in advance to Cro-Magnons.
Most of their habitat is now underwater and assumptions were made based upon the few caves found around Gibraltar. Which was Far inland at the time. It is in deep caves in Asia that a different picture comes to light.
Cro-Magnon flint tools were found far inferior to Neanderthals and the method of fitting flint to wood rather primitive compared to Neanderthals synthetic resins (YES Synthetic! - Not as stupid as we were told). But the evidence of communal living between both species and the human genome has shown where both species ended up.

You’re giving us the equivalent of an Anthropology degree, rmoor!

I was going to DL this, but I read Delf’s comments and looked this book up. It is 10 years old, I certainly want to read up on what Delf said, to me that is far more relevant to our relationship to Neanderthals and our origins.
There is an anomaly in our chromosomes that I seen a lot of geneticist point out, and that is the part that makes us human has been fused into place, something not seen anywhere else in nature. Made me think we had some non-earthy help.
But thank you for sharing rmoor!

@Hogweed,
There is support for what you say. Although I should think, a more down to earth factor will be found. BUT. The eyes of the Polynesians? Some of the people have alien DNA, alien with regard to Human? This is strange as it is also the area where Homos-hobbit was found and in those deep caverns the evidence to support communal living between cro-magnon and Neanderthal.
It makes you wonder how intelligence was generated. Although the fact we could and did breed with Neanderthals indicates that Neanderthals were actually human, not a separate species as history dictates. Otherwise, the offspring would have been sterile.
Obviously, even though the evidence is clear-cut. Archaeology and History peers will not tolerate a change to “Known” facts. What was written is true. Our predecessors cannot be wrong in their teachings. Many a reputation has been damaged to those trying to shed the light.
Look at Einstein v Newton, and Pluto’s orbit. The fact it ignored Newtonian physics was in turn ignored.
